What is Celebrate Recovery?

Celebrate Recovery was pioneered at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California about 15 years ago. Since then, hundreds of churches across the country have implemented this program and have seen thousands of men and women delivered from the strongholds of compulsive behaviors and other debilitating life problems.

We live in an intensely stressful, sin-stained, and painful world that takes its toll on every one of us…destroying our marriages, our families, our very spiritual vitality. We’ve all got hurts, habits, and hang-ups because of it!!!

This Biblically-balanced, Christ-centered ministry of recovery not only serves our own church body, it also reaches out to our community, offering real help and hope at our church.

The Celebrate Recovery ministry is based on eight timeless guiding principles from the Beatitudes. Each weekly meeting starts with praise and worship, some plenary instruction time, and then moves to break-out groups for individual problem issues. Some groups follow a more traditional Christian 12-step format to deal with addiction issues, while others are more support and encouragement-based.

Good Shepherd believes in this ministry because recovery is part of everyone’s life. We want to “get real” with each other and learn to be not only more transparent but more interdependent as a church body. This ministry helps us achieve those goals.
