Greece 2 Team – Update #6

(from team member Sandra Gearheart)

Notes, simple messages, a tiny piece of paper – we find them tucked among the many bags of baby and children’s clothing donations that come mostly from the Dutch and Germans. These seemingly small gestures are deeply profound and create an impact of tears as we sort and inventory baby girl dresses, tiny shirts with trucks on them, tiny shorts, skirts, and itty-bitty socks, etc.

Then, more treasure – this time possibly from a child who shares his figurines, such as a duck or a mouse or a rabbit (favorite toys we think). Then as we process through more bags we continue to be encouraged and edified by this global generosity. As we sort, we serve with other volunteers from all over the world and in so doing, we discover that we all are serving and loving Jesus through this work. The work is hot and dirty, and despite the conditions we become as one quickly and with joy.

As Jesus prays, we follow.

“I want all of them to be one with each other, just as I am one with you and you are one with me. I also want them to be one with us. Then the people of this world will believe that you sent me.” John 17:21
