Series: Jesus' Church
Title: Shake The Heavens
Speaker: Bob Byrant
Scripture: Ephesians 3:1-10
In Ephesians 3, Paul shines a light on some sort of "mystery." He teaches that the Church exists for more than seeing people saved and discipled. Paul reveals what the supreme purpose of the church is in part three of Jesus' Church.

The church fills up Jesus yet we know that Jesus fills the universe in every way. How can Jesus who created the universe and is its head and who fills it in every way, be filled by the church? As God he is totally without need and independent of anything. The answer lies in the metaphor of head and body. A head is incomplete without the body. Jesus is not only the head of the church but its fullness. But also, the church is the fullness or complement of Jesus. As a head must have a body to manifest the glory of the head, so the Lord must have the church to manifest His glory.
Here is how John Calvin said it.
“This is the highest honor of the church that, unless He [Jesus] is united to us [the church body], the Son of God reckons Himself in some measure imperfect. What an encouragement it is for us to hear, that not until He has us as one with Himself is He complete in all His parts, or does he wish to be regarded as whole!”
