Serbia Team Update #3

Today was our first day of English camp. Things started off at 9:00 with students arriving at the church, getting their camp shirts, and beginning to play catch, cards, or make bracelets with us. Maddie got the opportunity to help the local team with assessing each of the campers’ English proficiency to place them in English groups. This was a special opportunity for Maddie to get to meet each of the campers right off the bat and allowed for faster formation of friendships with them.
We got to hear from Vicktor during our first chapel session. The theme for the camp is “Real Life.” Our speakers are teaching through the life of Paul as a way of showing that Jesus is the way to a “real life”- a life of fulfillment and purpose; the life we were created for. We are thankful for the clear gospel presentations that the local team is intentional to make each session. We anticipate God moving greatly in the lives of these kids.
Many of us have already been able to form close bonds with one or two specific students; which was a specific answer to our prayers. Some of us got to befriend the littlest and most terrified girl at the camp. Others of us got to pray ceaselessly for the kid who reminded us of where we were during the low points of our testimonies. God has begun a GREAT work, and it is only day one.
As we look forward to the rest of the week, we ask that you pray for us to have successful English classes. We ask for healing as some of our team members have been under the weather throughout various points in our travel days as well as our time in-country. We ask for prayers for a specific girl (we won’t share her name), but we ask that God bring her from the darkness into the light. We pray that God would be glorified in our hearts and the hearts of these kids- forever and ever, Amen!
